Anyone who has ever known me will know how much greyhounds have my heart, and I will forever tell (or bore..lol) everyone about how amazing these dogs are.
As I have mentioned on this website and in a previous blog post, I grew up with greyhounds - see the "about me" page with little toddler Kayleigh and Shamu.
I struggle to put into words how greyhounds make me feel, they bring back happy childhood memories, and they have calmness to their souls that I find I can tune in to and truly understand.
I rediscovered this when I moved to the Gold Coast Australia at the age of 22 and came across a local greyhound rescue group looking for foster carers.
Tiger - my first Australian foster greyhound
Even today in 2022, I find it crazy that there is a still a common misconception that greyhounds need lots of exercise, and are really high energy and people would never consider having them as a pet.
Like every dog they all have their unique personalities but in my experience overall they are one of the easiest breeds to have as a pet.
Back in 2009 when I lived in Australia I saw first hand the neglect and in some cases the abuse greyhounds there had to endure due to the racing industry. But I won't get into the anti racing debate...or this would be a very long blog post!
Many greyhounds can live will children, other dogs and even cats and small animals.
I would encourage anyone to consider adopting or fostering, there are so many greyhounds throughout the UK needed homes.
Fostering greyhounds was one of the most rewarding things I have ever done, and in the future I will be doing it again.
Please consider adopting and not going straight to a breeder for your next dog.
Rescue centres are extremely overwhelmed currently and if you are in a position to help any animal, I guarantee you wouldn't regret it.
Greyhounds really do appreciate a loving home with all the comforts - they like to snooze a lot!
I will always remember every single greyhound from my childhood, my time in Australia and past greyhounds I have walked and cared for doing this wonderful job.
Adopt don't shop!
